The Chemical Peel Process
After your consultation at Balanced Bodies Anti-Aging Clinic, we can schedule your chemical peel appointment. Depending on the type of peel we choose, our staff may recommend a pre-peel skin care plan for 2 to 4 weeks prior to your first treatment.
On the day of your treatment, our experienced aesthetician will thoroughly cleanse your skin. Following this, your aesthetician will apply the chemical peel and monitor your skin carefully. Then, they will remove the peel at the ideal time for the best results. Once we remove the peel, we will apply a soothing lotion or cream to calm the skin.
Most patients experience minimal discomfort during a chemical peel, although they have reported slight burning or itching. Depending on the depth and size of the treated area, appointments may last up to 60 minutes. There is no downtime, so you can easily get back to your day right after treatment.
Different Types of Chemical Peels
Chemical peels offer a customizable approach to treating various skin conditions. Our offices use three types of medical-grade chemical peels (light to medium) that exfoliate the skin, eliminate dead cells, and leave your complexion feeling refreshed.
- We use alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA) and beta-hydroxy acids (BHA) as our lightest chemical peel option (15% to 30%). These peels target dead skin, improve skin texture, and reduce discoloration. They also help prevent signs of aging and boost collagen production.
- For our mild option, we offer lactic peels. Lactic peels deliver smoother, softer, and younger looking skin while diminishing fine lines, acne, and hyperpigmentation. These peels are great for patients with more sensitive skin because there is no irritation or recovery time needed.
- Our strongest option is a 30% mandelic peel. This type of peel will increase skin firmness and elasticity by ensuring uniform penetration of the skin layers.
Patient Instructions
Pre-Care:
- Discontinue retinoids 2 to 4 weeks before your treatment.
- Do not expose your skin to direct sunlight for 2 to 4 weeks before your appointment.
- SPF 30 sunscreen is your friend.
- When arriving, make sure to be makeup free.
- Talk with your provider during your consultation about any medications you take. If needed, you may need to stop taking certain medications.
- Do not undergo other exfoliating or hard skincare treatments within 2 to 4 weeks.
- Let your provider know during your consultation if you have a history of cold sores.
Post-Care:
- Wash the skin in the treatment area with gentle, scentless soap and lukewarm water for 2 weeks.
- Do not expose your skin to hot tubs, saunas, swimming pools, or other environments that would irritate your skin for 2 to 4 weeks.
- Take any prescribed pain medication as directed by your provider.
- Do not pick or peel any skin that flakes off.
- Continue avoiding direct sunlight and wear a minimum of SPF 30 sunscreen when going outdoors for at least 2 weeks.
- Do not use retinoids or other hard skincare products for at least two weeks.
